1Who we are
PLAYTONIQ GAMES LIMITED ("we", "us") operates Across the Pond, a mobile quiz game about British and American English (the "App"). This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. It applies to the App on iOS and Android.
For UK and EU data protection law, PLAYTONIQ GAMES LIMITED is the data controller. You can reach us at playtoniqgames@gmail.com.
2What we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: display name, avatar choice, and — if you sign in — the email address or account identifier returned by Apple, Google or email sign-in.
- Nationality preference, used to tailor questions and leaderboards.
- Your answer to the age question at first launch. We store whether you said you are 13 or older. We do not ask for or store your date of birth.
- Anything you send us by email, including support and privacy requests.
Information collected as you play
- Gameplay data: answers, scores, streaks, XP, identity score, stamps, duel and challenge results.
- Purchase records: which products you bought and whether a subscription is active. Card details never reach us — see section 5.
- Device and app data: device model, operating system version, app version, language and region.
- Analytics events: screen views and feature usage, collected only if you turn analytics on.
- Advertising identifiers: your device's advertising ID (IDFA on iOS, Advertising ID on Android), used only if you allow personalized ads.
We do not collect your contacts, photos, precise location, or microphone input. Saving a result card to your camera roll writes an image to your device; the image is never uploaded.
3Why we use it, and our lawful basis
Under UK GDPR and EU GDPR we must name a lawful basis for each purpose. Ours are:
- Running the game — saving progress, syncing between devices, showing leaderboards, delivering purchases. Basis: performance of a contract with you.
- Keeping the game fair and secure — detecting cheating, abuse and fraud. Basis: our legitimate interest in a working, honest game.
- Age assurance and children's safety. Basis: legal obligation.
- Analytics. Basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time in Settings.
- Personalized advertising. Basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time in Settings.
- Push notifications such as daily reminders and streak warnings. Basis: your consent, given through the system permission prompt.
Non-personalized ads are shown without consent because they do not rely on tracking you. See section 6.
4Advertising
The App is free and paid for by advertising. We use Appodeal as our mediation platform. Appodeal passes ad requests to advertising networks including Google AdMob and other partners listed in Appodeal's own disclosures. These networks may receive your device's advertising identifier, IP address, coarse country, device model and the ad formats you interact with.
You choose the kind of ads you see when you first open the App, and you can change your choice at any time under Settings › Privacy › Manage consent:
- Personalized ads on — advertising partners may use your advertising identifier to build an interest profile and measure ad performance.
- Personalized ads off — you still see ads, but they are chosen from context rather than from a profile, and your advertising identifier is not shared for profiling.
On iOS, the system App Tracking Transparency prompt appears after you have made your choice in the App. If you deny tracking there, we treat personalized ads as off regardless of any other setting. On Android you can reset or delete your Advertising ID in the system settings.
Buying the Dual Citizen Pass or Remove Ads stops ads entirely; no ad requests are made and no advertising identifier is shared.
5Purchases and subscriptions
Payments are taken by Apple or Google, not by us. We never see your card number, billing address or bank details.
We use RevenueCat as our purchase processor. RevenueCat receives the store receipt, an anonymous purchase identifier linked to your account, the product you bought and the country of your store account. It tells us whether your entitlements are active so the App can unlock what you paid for. RevenueCat processes this data on our instructions.
Refunds are handled by Apple and Google under their own terms. Ask them, not us — we cannot issue a refund on their behalf.
6Analytics
If you turn analytics on, the App records product events — which screens you open, which modes you play, where you stop — in our own Supabase database. Events carry your account identifier, app version and platform. They do not carry your email address, display name or answers to individual questions.
We use these events to decide what to fix and what to build. Raw events are aggregated and de-identified within 90 days. If you turn analytics off, no events are recorded and nothing is queued for later.
7Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising beyond the advertising choice described in section 4. We share data with these processors, and only for the purposes listed:
- Supabase — account storage, authentication, leaderboards, duels and analytics.
- Apple and Google — sign-in, payments, push notification delivery.
- RevenueCat — subscription and purchase status.
- Appodeal and its mediated ad networks — ad delivery and measurement.
- Expo — push notification routing.
We may also disclose data where the law requires it, or to establish or defend legal claims. If the business is sold or reorganised, your data may transfer to the buyer under this policy.
8Where your data is stored
Your account and gameplay data are stored in our Supabase project hosted in the European Union (eu-west-1, Ireland). Some of our processors operate in other countries, including the United States.
Where data leaves the UK or the European Economic Area, we rely on the UK International Data Transfer Addendum and the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, together with the safeguards each processor publishes.
9How long we keep it
- Account and gameplay data: kept while your account exists.
- Deleted accounts: erased or irreversibly anonymised within 30 days of your request, except where the law requires us to keep a record.
- Analytics events: aggregated and de-identified within 90 days.
- Purchase records: kept as long as tax and accounting law requires, typically six years.
- Guest play: stored only on your device until you sign in or uninstall the App.
10Deleting your account
Open Settings › Account › Delete my account. Your profile, gameplay history, leaderboard entries and analytics events are removed from our servers within 30 days. This cannot be undone, and purchases are not refunded — subscriptions must be canceled separately in your App Store or Google Play account settings.
If the in-app option fails, email playtoniqgames@gmail.com from the address on your account and we will delete it for you.
11Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask us to:
- Give you a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Correct data that is wrong or out of date.
- Delete your data.
- Restrict or object to how we use it, including profiling for advertising.
- Give you your data in a portable, machine-readable format.
- Withdraw a consent you gave us, at any time, without affecting what we did before you withdrew it.
Most of these are one tap away in Settings. For anything else, email playtoniqgames@gmail.com. We answer within one month. You can complain to your data protection authority at any time — in the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
12California residents
Under the CCPA and CPRA you can ask what personal information we collected in the last twelve months, ask us to delete it, ask us to correct it, and opt out of its sale or sharing. We will not treat you differently for exercising any of these rights.
We do not sell personal information for money. Personalized advertising can still count as sharing for cross-context behavioural advertising, so we give every user — not only Californians — the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information toggle in Settings › Privacy. Turning it on stops personalized ads and stops advertising identifiers being shared.
An authorised agent may submit a request on your behalf with written proof of authority.
13Children
Across the Pond is for players aged 13 and over. We ask your age at first launch and block the App if you are under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and we do not show personalized ads to anyone who has not consented.
If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, email playtoniqgames@gmail.com and we will delete the account and its data.
14Security
All traffic between the App and our servers is encrypted with HTTPS. Sign-in tokens are held in the device keychain or keystore, not in plain storage. Access to production data is limited to the people who need it, and database rules stop one account reading another's data.
No system is perfectly secure. If we discover a breach that puts your rights at risk, we will tell you and the relevant regulator as the law requires.
15Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we update the date at the top. If a change affects what you consented to, the App asks you to review your choices again before you carry on playing.
